QA Level 3 Paediatric First Aid at Work

WHY DO I NEED THIS?

This course has been developed for people who are working with children and infants. It will be of particular interest to teachers, school support staff, child minders, foster carers, crèche assistants, playgroup personnel and anyone else who has a responsibility for the welfare of children in their care.

The Paediatric First Aid at Work course is ideal for individuals who are responsible for children and infants, who wish to gain a nationally accredited Level 3 Award.

The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) Statutory Framework requires all early years providers in England to have at least one person who has a current and full paediatric first aid certificate on the premises and is available at all times when children are present. Providers should also take into account the number of children, staff and layout of the premises and increase their paediatric first aid provision accordingly to ensure that a paediatric first aider is available to respond to emergencies quickly.

WHAT SHOULD I KNOW FIRST?

This course consists of two units which learners must successfully complete to achieve the full qualification. Learners completing unit 1 only can be certificated with the Qualsafe Paediatric Emergency First Aid award.

Due to the practical nature of the first aid assessment, there are physical demands and learners must be able to demonstrate their skills as in a real-life situation.

An example of this would be to demonstrate CPR on a mannequin at floor level. It is recommended that learners should hold a minimum of Level 1 in literacy or equivalent to undertake this qualification.

It may be possible to allocate a reasonable adjustment to a learner who has a disability,  medical condition or learning needs. Please discuss any specific needs you may have with our team at the time of booking.

This two-day course also satisfies the guidelines and criteria as laid down by the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) and Ofsted. In order to obtain this qualification, you must attend both days and complete the two units of accreditation.

Duration – 2 days (12 hours)

Number of candidates – 12 maximum

On site requirements – a room to comfortably seat all candidates, and floor space for the practical sections.

WHAT WILL I LEARN?

You will gain knowledge and practical competence required to deal with a variety of Paediatric First Aid situations.

A range of subjects are covered including:

ABOUT THE QUALIFICATION

The qualification is assessed through practical demonstration and oral questioning. Scenarios will be set to enable a learner to demonstrate their knowledge and practical skills. Summative practical assessment is ongoing by the instructor each day, along with a written assessment on each day.

A learner must successfully pass both the written and practical assessments to achieve the qualification. The qualification awarded is the QA Level 3 Award Paediatric First Aid, which is valid for three years from the date of the achievement and satisfies EYFS criteria.

This qualification is regulated and awarded by Qualsafe Awards, which is one of the largest Ofqual recognised awarding organisations in the UK. No external assessors are required.
